Our community has suffered a tragic loss with the death of one of our students earlier today. Another student is currently hospitalized in critical condition. A third student has, thankfully, been released from the hospital. We are grieving and extend our deepest sympathies to the students’ family and friends.

As we approach the close of another wonderful semester, I commend each of you for the many ways you contribute to our Ohio State family. Whether you have come here to earn a degree, create new knowledge or grow your career, all of us help advance our university’s founding mission of learning and service in real and meaningful ways. I hope you are enjoying these first few days of spring! As you know, your safety and well-being continue to be our top priority. Masks are now optional in most indoor spaces, including residence halls, dining facilities, classrooms, offices and the Ohio Union. This decision was guided by many factors — CDC and Ohio Department of Health guidance, Ohio State positivity rates well below 1%, high vaccination rates and better weather.
