As Ohio State graduates received their diplomas during autumn commencement, President Carter, drawing from lessons learned throughout his own life and career, shared “behavioral principles” that will help position students for lifelong success.

In his public report to the Board of Trustees on Thursday, Dec. 4, President Carter reviewed highlights of the fall semester, including the release of Ohio State’s Education for Citizenship 2035 strategic plan and the university’s early progress toward the plan’s vision for academic excellence.

In his second State of the University address, President Carter unveiled his “Education for Citizenship 2035” strategic plan that will chart the university’s next 10 years of growth and impact and set a new standard of academic excellence at Ohio State.

In his public report to the Board of Trustees on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, President Carter reviewed highlights of the spring semester, including commencement, key speaking engagements, achievements by Buckeye student-athletes, and legislative developments. He also led the presentation of the inaugural Pierre Agostini Prize.

As graduates received their diplomas during spring commencement, President Carter encouraged them to embody what it means to be a “Buckeye for life” by answering a call to serve the greater good in all they do.

In a keynote speech, President Carter reviewed the history and mission of America’s land-grant universities and called on the Ohio State community to “pivot” during a time of change and challenge for higher education in order to continue to lead for future generations of students.

In his regular report to the Board of Trustees on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, President Carter recapped a successful start to the spring semester, reviewed the steps the university is taking in response to state and federal government actions, and gave an update on the work being done on his 10-year “Education for Citizenship” strategic plan.

As graduates received their diplomas during autumn commencement, President Carter encouraged them to live a life of service, whether through their work, family or community engagement activities.

In his regular report to the Board of Trustees on November 20, 2024, President Carter recapped his investiture ceremony and outlined the framework for the “Education for Citizenship” strategic plan that he will release in July.

As he was officially installed as Ohio State's 17th president, Walter "Ted" Carter Jr. called on the Buckeye community to develop a 10-year strategic plan named for the university's motto, “Education for Citizenship.”

During the board's quarterly meeting, President Carter shared updates from over the summer and looked ahead to fall, including the university's ongoing strategic planning process.
