The following message was shared with all Ohio State students on Monday, February 13, 2023.

Dear Buckeyes,

Buckeyes around the globe belong to a vibrant, caring community and I am thrilled once again to see our students, faculty and staff participating in this year’s celebration of #BuckeyeLove, which includes National Random Acts of Kindness Day on Friday and Random Acts of Kindness Week.

There are always stories of Buckeyes sharing kindness and their time year-round, such as 500 students generously participating in projects to support the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in January or the “Give Kids A Smile Day” that made its return at the College of Dentistry earlier this month after taking a pandemic pause. Buckeyes support and inspire each other, and this week — Friday in particular — offers a great opportunity to go the extra mile and show gratitude and compassion to those around you. I hope you will also take notice of the many ways Ohio State is sharing its gratitude and compassion for you this week, on our campuses and at the medical center.

United Black World Month

Ohio State is again celebrating United Black World Month — honoring past and present African American Buckeyes. Great thanks to all our colleges and departments for helping to highlight the importance of this month, including the Center for Belonging and Social Change for its upcoming events.

Celebrating success

Congratulations to the eight undergraduate 2023 Civil Discourse Fellows for the Center for Ethics and Human Values. These Buckeyes — Joe Bjorkman, Cydney Carter, Aditya Desai, Ellamarie Jones, Trevor Jones, Elyse Reed, Julia Rizzo and Saed Yousuf — represent a wide range of majors, plan and moderate Civil Discourse Forums and serve as ambassadors for civil discourse on campus.

Kudos to the Ohio State dance team on their recent performance at the Universal Dance Association’s College National Championship, where they brought home three titles, and the Ohio State Cheer team on their third-place performance at the Universal Cheerleading Association College Nationals competition.

As always, I encourage all students to prioritize your well-being. There are many support services on campus designed to help you improve your overall well-being, both in and outside of the classroom, so do not hesitate to reach out for help when you need it.

Go Buckeyes!

Sincerely yours,

Kristina M. Johnson, PhD
