A message from President Ted Carter
Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Alumni:
Earlier today, I had the great honor of being appointed president of The Ohio State University. I wanted to reach out to all of you to express my excitement at joining this incredible community of students, faculty, staff and alumni – and thank you for the warm welcome that Lynda and I have already received from so many Buckeyes.
Throughout my career, I have been driven by a sense of service at the highest level. I am drawn to Ohio State as it operates at the highest levels of academics, research and scholarship, clinical care, athletics and more. My immediate focus will be to listen, learn and earn your trust. My long-term commitment is to be a responsible and accountable leader, as well as an advocate for our university community, our state and higher education.
I am grateful to the Board of Trustees for this opportunity and to Dr. Peter Mohler for serving as acting president until the start of the new year. I am also thankful to you — students, faculty, staff and alumni — for the work you do each day to shape a university community that so many, including myself and my family, can call their new home.
Ohio State is a large and complex organization, and a common theme throughout my 40 years in higher education and military service is a shared mission to educate and be educated.
Mastering the art of teaching and learning is a lifelong pursuit, and I can’t wait to continue on this journey with all of you.
Ted Carter
Incoming President
The Ohio State University
