The following email was sent to former Ohio State student-athletes on June 12, 2018.
A Message from President Drake
Dear Former Student-Athlete:
As a former student-athlete, you are an integral part of our Ohio State community — and we are asking for your assistance in a difficult matter. As you may be aware, Ohio State announced an independent, external investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against a former university-employed physician, Dr. Richard Strauss. These serious allegations are incompatible with the core values of who we are as a university community.
Dr. Strauss was employed by the university from the late-1970s to the late-1990s. He died in 2005. During his time at Ohio State, Dr. Strauss treated student-athletes from several varsity sports, worked at the medical center and treated patients at the student health center.
We are asking former students who may have attended Ohio State during these years to please bring forward any information you may have related to the allegations by contacting the investigators engaged to examine these allegations on behalf of the university at osu@perkinscoie.com.
In the university's effort to connect with as many former students as possible, you may have received a previous message on this matter. We sincerely appreciate your willingness to assist us in this important effort.
Thank you,
Michael V. Drake, MD
President
