Shared Governance

Ohio State’s system of shared governance gives voice to key university constituents on a wide range of issues. The University Senate is the overarching shared governance body, and its members include faculty, administrators and representatives of the student-government and staff organizations below.

University Senate

The University Senate is the shared governing body of The Ohio State University. Composed of faculty, students, staff and administrators, the Senate’s primary responsibility is to advise campus leaders on key educational and academic policy concerns.

Undergraduate Student Government

USG represents undergraduate students on Ohio State’s campuses and advocates for policies, resources and events that reflect their best interest and desires.

Council of Graduate Students

CGS advocates for Ohio State’s more than 10,000 graduate students, strives to continually improve the graduate-student experience and provides opportunities for professional development and fellowship.

Inter-Professional Council

IPC is composed of students from Ohio State’s six professional colleges. The council seeks to create and maintain an environment that fosters professional excellence and encourages the betterment of higher education.

University Staff Advisory Committee

USAC represents staff across the university and medical center. It serves as an advisory body to leadership and fosters active communication within the university community to advance recommendations that support Ohio State’s mission.
