A message of gratitude

Dear Buckeyes,

You are the reason Ohio State is such a special place. During this season of gratitude, Veronica and I want you to know we appreciate you and we are thankful that you are part of the Buckeye community.

If you are on the Columbus campus over the holiday, join us at the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of International Affairs annual Thanksgiving Dinner at noon Wednesday, November 23, in the Archie Griffin Ballroom at the Ohio Union. You must show a BuckID to receive a ticket. The event is also supported by the Office of Student Life's Dining Services and The Ohio State University Alumni Association.

Enjoy the break this week, and I hope that you are able to use your time during the long holiday weekend to rest, recharge and cheer on our Buckeyes in The Game!

Sincerely yours,

Kristina M. Johnson, PhD
President

Dear Colleagues,

As we enter this season of gratitude, Veronica and I are so thankful to be part of a community like ours. As Buckeyes, we have faced challenges, celebrated great successes and shown remarkable resilience. Ohio State is truly a special place because of your hard work and dedication.

So many of you continually put aside personal time and make sacrifices to support our mission of education, research and service. The health, safety and well-being of all Buckeyes is always my top concern. With that in mind, I am pleased to share that, similar to last year, the university will be closed for an academic recess from December 27 – 30, 2022. We are able to use this time to support health and well-being because classes are not in session, and there are fewer people on our campuses and reduced operations. December 23, 26 and January 2 remain regular university holidays. I hope you can use this time to recharge and spend it with your families, friends and loved ones.

I want to thank the University Staff Advisory Committee and so many others for their feedback on the importance of the academic recess and their regular advocacy of employee well-being.

As is the case regarding regular university holidays, services that are critical, as determined by unit and college leadership, will continue December 23 through January 3. Employees required to work during the closure will be paid. In addition, non-exempt employees will be eligible to earn compensatory time and exempt employees will be eligible for flex time.

My deepest gratitude goes to employees who fulfill these critical services – on holidays and every other day of the year. For additional information about implementation and eligibility, please see the Office of Human Resources website.

Thank you, Buckeyes, for everything you do.

Sincerely yours,

Kristina M. Johnson, PhD
